Several compounds such as libanoridin, heterocarpin, and columbianetin A and crude extract were isolated respectively from Corydalis heterocarpa and Corydalis bungeana and were reported to have anti-tumorigenic and antiinflammatory properties. Corydalis platycarpa (Maxim.) Makino, another Fumariaceae member, have acclimated and prospered in Jeju Island, South Korea. However, the synergistic and inhibition effect of Corydalis platycarpa (Maxim.) Makino crude extract on the expression of LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines and mediators has not been yet examined. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) and immunoblotting were implemented to examine representative inflammatory markers. We found the Corydalis platycarpa (Maxim.) Makino extract (CPE) inhibited dose-dependently the secretion of the five pro-inflammatory indicators NO, PGE2 and TNF-¥á and suppressed mRNA expressions of iNOS, COX-2, TNF-¥á, IL-1¥â, and IL-6. Furthermore CPE exerted its dosedependent anti-inflammatory effect via NF-¥êB/I¥êB signaling pathway while down-regulating the protein expression level of iNOS and COX-2 and suppressing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as PGE2 and TNF-¥á. CPE would be further applied to the development of pharmaceuticals and functional cosmetic ingredients.
